Our Story -
Dogtown Bakery opened its doors in June of 2021 with a mission to serve pets with the most nutritional and digestible treats, chews, cakes and lightly cooked fresh food. With over 20 years of experience in canine nutrition and wellness, our passion for dogs is to focus on using the highest quality nutritional and easily digestible ingredients possible. We rely on local sustainable farmers and growers, bringing you an incredible product without a high price.

Offering organic, optional dairy-free, wheat free, with grain-free options to compliment your dogs dietary needs is what we take pride in. Our very own locally sourced treats, Paradise Pawz, can be found on the shelves and are baked fresh on site. Every morning the bakery case is greeted with fresh cakes and pastries just waiting to make a tail wag. Not to leave out our single ingredient chews that are sliced and dried right here in our bakery is what we are known for.

We haven't left out the modern dog! We offer a selection of additional products, including leashes, bowls, bandanas, and seasonal items.

My name is Michelle Alpern and keeping dogs happy and healthy is my passion. At one point I was able to cuddle with my 7 Newfoundlands and 2 English Cockers at once. Together we earned over 50 AKC/CKC, National Breed Titles as specials and earned countless AKC Obedience & Working Dog titles​ along with being a Therapy Dog Team with Pet Partners.

Since nutrition has always been such an important component to keeping ones immune system in check, it was important to return to school and obtain a degree in Animal Science. Some of my dogs were raw feeders on the original BARF plan, some home cooked and a couple are grain free preferred. There was never a one and done meal plan any of them.

After losing my heart dog Izzy to Osteosarcoma, I made the decision to take my knowledge and launch Paradise Pawz. A Veterinarian approved line of treats and chews made for all types of dogs. Each treat is hand cut, lightly baked and made from the highest quality ingredients found right here in Hawaii. Paradise Pawz is also proudly a member of Made in Hawaii with Aloha sponsored by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. As we grew, we expanded our line while focusing on nutrition and well-balanced products.

It wasn't long and we found our home in Kailuatown building a boutique bakery with a full commercial kitchen offering a full line of cakes that are made fresh to order without refined sugar, cream cheese, vegetable/canola oil, preservatives or toxic food coloring. Each cake is formulated to match your dog's dietary needs. We also have fresh baked ready to purchase cakes daily along with our full line of doughmutts and pastries.

Without having Izzy in my life those 6 1/2 short years, I would have not had the opportunity to create a place to celebrate the love of dogs. I hope you visit us and bring your dog in for some puptails and belly rubs!

Co-Owner Austin Alpern
Austin was raised with a pack of 9 Newfoundlands and two English Cockers from early on. At the age of 8 he became an AKC Jr. Handler where he showed our family Newfoundlands at Regional Specialties and Working Dog shows. He spent three years as a steward working with our water dogs obtaining multiple water titles in Southern California. Though he spent most of his weekends at dog shows throughout California, he had a passion for cooking. An expert waffle maker, Austin nurtured and help care for our heart dog Izzy ensuring all of our ingredients were organic and low in sugar while we battled an aggressive cancer, Osteosarcoma.
Austin is a Kaiser High graduate, where he then jumped right out of high school and into the family business. First as Director of Operations for Paradise Pawz and now Co-owner of Dogtown Bakery. You can find Austin at the bakery on the daily working and making plenty of time for furry friendly visitors.
